Some are, within limits. Others are trials in disguise, ask for a card up front, or exclude the feature teaching depends on — learner accounts or live classes. Check the expiry, the published limits and whether payment details are required before you invest setup time.
Three questions separate a real free plan from a marketing one. Does it end on a date? Does it require a card to start? Can you actually teach on it, or is the free tier a read-only preview?
Cost can also arrive indirectly: storage overages, per-certificate charges, paid live-session minutes, or a jump to an enterprise quote as soon as you pass a small learner count. None of that makes a platform wrong for you, but it should be known before you migrate a term's worth of material.
